Basics about Networking (CCNA) from Scratch? Part 1
Networking is interconnecting two or more computers to
access resources present on the network; with networking we can share data,
pictures, resources etc. between multiple users present on the network. We can
share files with other person present on other location and we can communicate
with that in the same context.
As shown below there are two computers connected with each
other through wire and it can be connected through wire as well as we can
connect them via wireless. If you want to connect with wireless then u must be
having a wireless network card installed in your computer.
Whereas for Wired network Local Area Network Card is
required this is installed in your Pc. As you see in the above picture there is
a networking device placed between computers which we call as switch and other
side wireless switch is sending the radio signals these are the basic two types
of network with which you can do networking.
How is it done?
In the above example A and B are two computers which are
connected with wire, to connect these computers with wire we need a device
called NIC Card (Network Interface Card). NIC card is mandatory in both the
computers to communicate. In the above
diagram we have two NIC cards one in compute A and one in computer B, wire is
connected with these NIC cards.
Particular Jack to
which Network Interface Card ( NIC ) connects to through wire :-
RJ 45 (Registered jack 45).
We use different
types of cabling technology let me just name some of them :-
CAT 5 cable
Optical Fiber.
To communicate it should have a name both the computers must
have a name to communicate. As we have Computer A and Computer B which has been
identified with NIC .How is the name has been defined? Which is unique identity
for computer A and computer B which is been identified through your NIC card. NIC
will have MAC Address; NIC will have
a naming section which is a unique Identity in the world, now we have named it
also. To communicate rules has to be setup; these rules are called as Protocols.
Protocols:-
Set of rules layered
on network.
MAC Address:-
Media Access
Controller
Connecting
computers:-
LAN (Local Area Network)
Small network inside a campus like you are connecting floors
first floor to second floor, ex 15 computers connected in a university.
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
Connect across cities, ex computers connected from different
branches of university.
WAN (Wide Area Network)
Connecting whole world, ex internet.
